Swalwell North signal box on the embankment from Swalwell station (half mile to the right), with signals controlling the junctions for Newcastle (via Scotswood railway bridge), Blaydon and Dunston. Photographed from fields near Bates Cottages, near Swalwell Bridge, looking northeast towards Newcastle. The embankment now forms part of the western by-pass running towards the new Blaydon bridge.
