Old Castle were a brand from John Sinclair and Co Ltd of Newcastle, who also made Rubicon, a pipe tobacco. Rubicon was advertised before the war in a newspaper strip cartoon featuring a character called 'Geordie' and who 'spoke' in the Tyneside dialect
